Martha Trower
Marty was educated in Montreal, Portland and Boston. She has a BFA degree from the Maine College of Art and
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from University of Southern Maine. She has done extensive graduate
studies in Art and Special Education in Maine and Massachusetts where she has exhibited her prints, drawings and
collages.
Her 25 years of teaching art included positions at Gould Academy, the Baxter School for the Deaf and Mt. Ararat High School. She retired from teaching in 2001 and moved to the island to live year round in 2003 (after being a summer resident since 1946). She has been an Educational Technician at the Chebeague Island School since 2005. Lately, Marty has been making functional mosaic pieces using worn glass, stone, and china from her front lawn, her piece of heaven, Hamilton Beach.
