Dear Friends on Great Chebeague Island,

Hospice of Maine Bike the Bay is a unique new bicycling adventure to support Hospice of Maine. Bike the Bay is a bicycle event for the whole family. It is coming through your neighborhood on Sunday, September 30. Beginning at 9:00am, riders of all ages will leave the campus of Southern Maine Technical College for the South Portland Greenbelt to Casco Bay Bridge and the Casco Bay Island Ferry Terminal. After a ferry ride in Casco Bay, the riders will arrive at Great Chebeague Island.

The cyclists will be on the island to sightsee, visit the public beaches and enjoy an autumn afternoon on Casco Bay. We very much appreciate that we will be in your neighborhood. A naturalist will be on the ferry to point out items of interest as well as to talk about the importance of being responsible visitors to your island. We want to be good neighbors as we pass by, so you may see a lot of waving, happy strangers pass by that day.

Hospice of Maine provides important volunteer services to patients and their families facing a life-ending illness throughout the greater Portland area. Through our Visiting Volunteers and Grief and Bereavement Services, Hospice provides for the physical, spiritual, emotional and practical needs of patients and families facing a terminal illness. All of our services are provided at no charge to families. Our goal is to help patients and their loved ones to live as fully and as comfortably as possible for however long life lasts. Seven individuals/families in Yarmouth and Cumberland received care last year from Hospice, including a few from Chebeague Island.

If you would like to participate in Bike the Bay as a rider or a volunteer, please call the Hospice office at 774-4417 or email bike@hospiceofmaine.org. Or just wave as we go by. Thank you for sharing your neighborhood with us.
