To Friends in Harpswell:

Please don't take away what is so gorgeous about where we live. I well
understand the tax burden. I inherited a piece of waterfront property, a
treasured summer camp on Chebeague.I sacrificed a lot to convert this spot
into my year round home. I will never leave it.

I taught your children at Mt. Ararat for 21 years, and paid taxes in Topsham
as well as on Chebeague. The school children of SAD 75 are not suffering.
They have the very best any public high school can offer. I always thought
my teenaged students from Harpswell loved the sea. Many fished in the summer
and chose to live there after graduation. Others have come back to their
unique home near the water. Did they return to live amidst overpowering
vessels that prevent them from being out on the water?

I am struggling to keep the home that my father bought in 1946, but I can't
imagine supporting a monstrosity such as the proposed LNG facility even if
it promised to solve all my financial problems.

I can not vote in Harpswell. I can only use my agonized words to encourage
Harpswell residents to vote NO on March 9th. I have swum, sailed, motored,
fished, and combed the beaches of Casco Bay for 58 years. Will any of the
dollars from the LNG plant float over to our shores on Chebeague? I doubt
it. I hate to think what the tide will bring in instead.
