About Chebeague & Cumberland Land Trust
Founded in 1987, the Chebeague & Cumberland Land Trust (CCLT) is a nationally accredited land trust
guided by an ambitious strategic plan with a mission to preserve and protect the intrinsic values and
public benefits of the natural resources in the towns of Chebeague Island and Cumberland. CCLT is a
responsible steward in perpetuity of 31 properties totaling over 1,050 acres, with one project
anticipated to close in August. Conservation values guiding our work include protecting natural areas
(forests, habitat, water resources), scenic and open spaces, working landscapes (agricultural land,
working forests, and waterfront), recreational areas, and environmental education. The Board of
Directors consists of 13 individuals representing both communities who provide guidance and
oversight for the organization.

Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) provides leadership, strategy and inspiration to enable CCLT to achieve its
mission. The ED manages the day-to-day operations of the organization, and is supported by CCLT’s
Board of Directors, active committees, two part-time staff, and an engaged group of volunteers. The
ED drives and manages CCLT’s land acquisition activities, oversees stewardship responsibilities to
monitor and maintain fee properties and easements, oversees marketing, membership and outreach
programs, manages administrative operations of the organization, and ensures that the organization
complies with LTA Standards and Practices. The ED manages and complies with the annual operating
budget, and is actively involved in all fundraising activities, and represents CCLT at community events.
The ED supervises a part-time Stewardship Coordinator and Membership & Outreach Associate,
reports directly to the Board President, and works out of the CCLT office in Cumberland Center, with
the flexibility for a hybrid work environment.

Roles and responsibilities
• Represent CCLT with stakeholders, including landowners, municipal governments, in local and
regional public forums, meetings, and events.
• Create and implement the annual work plan, in close partnership with committee chairs.
• Lead, create and oversee the annual operating budget, providing monthly compliance reporting to
the board, in partnership with the Treasurer.
• Lead and manage acquisition projects, including supporting the Acquisitions Committee and Board in
evaluating conservation opportunities.
• Oversee stewardship activities on all properties, including compliance with all easement monitoring
duties.
• Supervise staff and support professional development opportunities for each.
• Support the President with preparing board agendas and supporting materials.
• Support committee chairs with meeting preparation, and attend meetings as needed.
• Oversee direct mail program activities, including all appeals, renewals, and prospect mailings.
• Oversee all written communications for the website, social media, newsletter, and otherwise.
• Participate in fundraising activities, including grant writing and face-to-face meetings with members
and major donors.
• Work with contractors and vendors on behalf of CCLT including, but not limited to, lawyers,
appraisers, surveyors, and financial institutions.
• Support the advancement of DEI opportunities within the organization and on its properties.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Commitment to land and water conservation.
• Work experience preferred in land conservation or in nonprofit management position.
• Ability to multitask on a wide variety of projects and issues on a daily basis.
• Strong organizational skills given the range of projects and tasks for which the Executive Director is
responsible.
• Ability to implement LTA Standards and Practices in all aspects of land trust operations.
• Ability to manage conservation projects, including acquisition of fee properties and conservation
easements, monitoring and stewarding lands, enforcing legal protections.
• Experience fundraising or leading capital campaign a plus.
• Supervisory experience.
• A high level of motivation, excellent work ethic, and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and to bring various volunteers/constituents together.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
