The topic for in-depth discussion at the Committee's next meeting

10/23 9:00AM) is water quality and waste water disposal. The
Committee's
point person on these topics is Carol White.
In preparation for the Committee's work on 10/23, the Committee
has
organized two public discussions as described in the Island Calendar
as
follows:
Thursday, 10/14, 7:00 P.M. at CIHCC
GROUND WATER AND SEPTIC SYSTEMS ON CHEBEAGUE
As part of the work on the Comprehensive Plan we are providing
this
workshop on Ground Water and Septic Systems on Chebeague. Information
on
our ground water resources on the Island including threats and
limitations
will be presented. This is an opportunity to find out about these
important
issues, to ask whatever questions you may have and to help to
develop
essential strategies to protect ground water resources on Chebeague.

HOME HEATING OIL TANKS: -- A Serious Threat To Island Water Supplies

Come hear representatives from the Maine DEP talk about a
serious
problem with home heating oil tanks impacting water supplies on
Maine
islands. Find out about new regulations that may apply to YOUR
home fuel
tank. Learn about innovative programs on Long Island and in Harpswell
to
help homeowners upgrade their systems and protect their water

These sessions have been planned to inform the Committee and
the public on
these complex topics. The Committee will meet to discuss potential
recommendations to the Cumberland Town Council on Saturday, 10/23.
