Elizabeth H. (Calder) Hamlen

Elizabeth H. (Calder) Hamlen, 87, of Bridgewater died peacefully on Oct. 5. Elizabeth was the loving daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Hamilton) Calder and grew up on Chebeague Island, Maine. She met her future husband Albert during WWII while he was stationed on the island. The two married and after his discharge they moved to Bridgewater where they raised their children. Elizabeth was a crossing guard for a few years and for 19 years co-owned Hamlen’s Fish Market in Central Square. She was always active at the First Baptist Church in Bridgewater, and loved crafts and spending time on Chebeague Island with her family.

She was the loving wife of 63 years to Albert W. Hamlen and mother of Helen L. Hudson of FL, Sharon A. Hamlen of Westport, David W. Hamlen of Bridgewater and the late Jerry W. Hamlen. She is survived by her loving grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sister of Richard Calder of ME, Beverly Dyer of ME, Genevieve Carter of ME, and predeceased by many other siblings.

A Funeral Home Service will be held at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater on Thurs. Oct. 9th at 10:00am followed by a burial at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Visitation will be held on Wed. evening from 4-7 pm.
