Janet A. Martin

Janet A. Martin, 84, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024 at  the Island Commons on Chebeague Island.

Janet was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 23, 1940 to Edward and Jane Feret Finley.

She lived in Wildwood NJ with her mother until moving to East Meadow New York in the early 1950’s where she grew up and graduated from East Meadow High School . She married George Ciago in 1958 and had 2 children where they lived in Wantaugh, NY.

After their divorce, Janet moved to Lisbon Falls, Maine with her 2 children to be closer to her Mother. That is where she met the love of her life and soulmate Stephen Martin. They were married and lived in Lisbon Falls until moving to Brunswick in the late 1990’s. Their final move was to Topsham. She lost her soulmate, to cancer in 2011. In 2013, she moved to an assisted living facility on Chebeague Island where she became family to all who lived and worked there. Her sense of humor and strength was loved by all.

Janet  enjoyed boating on the ocean and finding a place to dig clams with her late husband Stephen. She also loved going to Higgins Beach with her family and looking for sand dollars along the beach. She loved the ocean and especially the lighthouses which she collected anything that would have a lighthouse on it.

She was a devoted Catholic and went to every mass until she was unable. Pastor Victor who was on Chebeague Island was someone she loved very much and looked forward to his services. He was not only her Pastor but a very good friend where they would sit and chat and laugh together every chance they got.

She never forgot a birthday or anniversary. She would send a card or give a call and never missed one. She adored her children and Grandchildren and always looked forward to every visit.

She is leaving behind such a void but she is now free from all pain and with her Lord Jesus, her husband, her Mother and all who have gone before her and is finally at peace.

Janet was predeceased by the love of her life, Stephen Martin, her Mother, Jane, and Father, Edward Finley.

She is survived by her Son, John Martin and his wife Kimberly, Daughter, Cynthia Hilton and her husband Donald. 8 Grandchildren, Shannon Vickerson, Stephanie, Bradley, Chris, Nate, and Brennah Martin. Kelsey and Nicholas Thibeault. 10 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandson William.

At Janet’s request, there will not be a funeral. There will be a mass at the StCharles Church on McKeen St in Brunswick at a later date that will be posted on Facebook.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the amazing, caring, and loving staff members of The Island Commons, 132 Littlefield Rd, Chebeague Island, ME 04017
