Arthur Ferguson Mead, Jr.

FergusonArthur Ferguson Mead, Jr. (84), formally of Montclair, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2018 in Jacksonville Beach, FL. Born in East Orange, NJ, he grew up in Bloomfield, NJ. He graduated from Newark Academy and attended the University of Maine at Orono where he graduated with a Civil Engineering Degree. He began his career with Elam & Popoff, a consulting engineering firm in Glen Rock, NJ. He met his wife-to-be, Margery Mack, in the Montclair Ski Club. They were married in Union Congregational Church in April 1963, where they remained members for over forty years.

They were longtime residence of Montclair, NJ. In 1965, he passed the Professional Engineering exam in the State of New Jersey. He was the town engineer for Ramsey, NJ, for most of his professional career. He finished his career on the staff of the Montclair municipal engineering department where he served on the Planning Board. He retired and later moved to Jacksonville Beach, FL, where he enjoyed the Florida sun, weather, and lifestyle.

He loved golf (member of the PGA hole-in-one club), fishing, land surveying, the NY Giants, and Yankees, and pets. He spent many summers in his youth and adult life on Chebeague Island, ME.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margery Mead, his sister Barbara and her family, his brother, William C. Mead and his wife, Marie, and his family, his two sons, Wm. Bradford and his wife, Ann Marie, and their children Alex, David, and Emily; and Arthur Ferguson III and his wife, Fallon, and their children Darrow, Matthew, Cheyenne, and Maren. Internment will be on May 12th at 11 am at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Upper Montclair, NJ.
