Janet Davis Peterson, 80

janetFALMOUTH - Janet Davis Peterson, 80, was surrounded by her family when she passed away on July 7, 2018, at the Gosnell Hospice House, following a courageous, year-long battle against cancer.

She was born on Oct. 20, 1937, in Portland, to Richard and Mary (Hill) Davis. Janet described fond memories of growing up on Clinton Street with her brother (Stephen H. Davis) in Portland, and time spent at Camp Moy-mo-da-yo.
Janet graduated from Deering High School in 1956 and attended Pennsylvania University where she completed her degree in dental hygiene. She went on to work in the field for many years at the Maine Youth Center and Community Dental.

Janet met her former husband, Louis A. Peterson II, and the two were married on May 22, 1962, at Woodfords Church where Janet was a longtime member. Janet took great pride in her many roles at Woodfords Church including the Lay Ministry, Spirituality Group and Diaconate. Additionally, Janet volunteered her time at the Center for Grieving Children.

Janet was very proud of her three children (Erik C. Peterson Sr., Thor A. Peterson, and Anne E. Kneale); daughter-in-law (Beth Matthews Peterson), and son-in law (Andrew W. Kneale). She devoted much of her energy raising her children and enjoyed spending time with her family at her home on Andrews Avenue in Falmouth, as well as her family camp in Norway. Janet lit up when spending time with her three grandchildren (Erik C. Peterson Jr., Landon D. Kneale, and Addison E. Kneale) and was often heard singing and reading with them.

Janet shared her witty sense of humor, playfulness, and genuine concern for others. Many describe Janet as a strong woman who draws the best out of others. She was loved by many and had a wonderful group of friends who enjoyed spending time together. Janet's love for the holidays brought family and friends together in celebration. Janet lived intentionally and surrounded herself with joy. She enjoyed time spent at Pilgrim Lodge, book club, trips to the Frozen Custard, symphony and the Good Theatre.

A service will be held at Woodfords Congregational Church, 202 Woodford St., Portland, on July 21, 2018 at 10 a.m.
