Ross Martindale, 61, was born in Glen Ridge and was raised
in Upper Montclair. He lived in the Caldwells for the past 35
He was a 1972 graduate of the Stonier School of Banking, Washington, D.C., and worked as a banker for 36 years until his retirement in 1999 as vice president of the Bank of New York in Totowa.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Martindale worked for the Bank of New York, formerly National Community Bank in West Caldwell. He started his banking career at Montclair National Bank/American National Bank and First Fidelity Bank Caldwell before joining National Community Bank/Bank of New York.
An active member of the West Essex community, Mr. Martindale was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Caldwell-West Essex since 1979. He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club, a past lieutenant governor, recipient of the George F. Hixon Award, the highest international award for Kiwanis, and a member of the Board of Directors.
Mr. Martindale was past president of the West Essex Chamber of Commerce and recipient of the Citizen of the Year award.
He was the first co-chair of the first Rotary/Kiwanis Caldwell Street Fair, a member of the advisory board of Essex County College, West Essex Campus, coordinator of the Caldwell Women's Club and a Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) leader active with Indian Guides and Princesses.
He is survived by his father, Ross Martindale Sr.; his children, Lisa Brown and her husband, Jason, of Emerson and Brian Martindale of Burlington, N.C.; his granddaughter, Emily; and his brother, Frederick Martindale and his wife, Donna, of Savannah, Ga.. Mr. Martindale was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Beach Martindale.
A service of remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Women's Club of Caldwell, 31 Westville Ave., Caldwell. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Dancy Funeral Home in Caldwell.
