Stephen A. Martin

photoStephen A. Martin, 68 of Maynard Dr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 16, 2011 at Auburn Hospice House surrounded by the love of his life, wife, Janet and family.

He was born on Feb. 27, 1943 in Portland. A son of Antone “Tony” and Dorothy Martin. Steve grew up in Lisbon Falls and was a graduate of Lisbon High School.

Steve served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

On May 3, 1971 he married Janet A. Finley and would have been married 40 years in May.

Steve worked at Bowdoin College for over 16 years and retired in 2009 due to his health.

He was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, All Saint’s Parish and a member of the Coombs-Mountfort American Legion Post 158 in Lisbon, and VFW Post 9459.

Steve loved fishing and clamming, but his greatest love other than his wife was his love and deep faith in Jesus.

Surviving are his beloved wife of almost 40 years, Janet Martin of Topsham; two children, John Martin and his wife Kim of Chebeague Island, and Cynthia Thibeault and her husband Kevin of Brunswick; a brother, Albert Martin and his wife Doris of Lisbon Falls; a sister, Betty Jane Garnett and husband David of Lisbon; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; an aunt Emily Caron and her husband Leo of California; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, Marc h 22 from 4:00 – 6:00pm at Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing St., Brunswick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Wednesday, March 23 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, All Saint’s Parish, 132 McKeen St., Brunswick.
