Vera Marie (Cobb) Beisiegel
1921 - 2007

 

FRANKLIN- Vera Marie (Cobb) Beisiegel, a life long resident of Franklin, passed away on May 17, 2007 at Harrington Court Convalescent Home in Colchester. She was born in Rockville, CT in 1921; the firstborn daughter of Eben Henry and Vera (Hamilton) Cobb.
Vera attended Maple St. School, Rockville High School and the University of Connecticut majoring in Home Economics. During WWII, Vera worked for the Aetna Insurance Co. in the annuities division. She was also employed at Sayles Elementary School, in Baltic, as a teacher's aide. On June 26, 1948, in Vernon, CT, she married Theron Alling Beisiegel Jr; he predeceased her. Together they raised four children.

Vera was a longtime member of the Franklin Congregational Church; she served as a deaconess and for over 50 years in the choir as the mainstay soprano and soloist. While at UCONN, she sang with the University Carolers and the Glee Club; she also sang with the Lebanon Community Chorus. She was a lifetime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Vera loved the ocean and spent summers at the beaches of Chebeague Island, ME, her mother's ancestral home, and Cape Cod, residing there for several years.

Vera is survived by her three sons, Russell C. and wife Debra of Franklin, Craig C. and wife Joyce of Alameda, CA, Theron A. III and wife Sheila of Plymouth, NH; a daughter, Valerie E. King and husband Robert of Griswold; eleven grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; a sister, Violet Lerch of Vernon and three nieces. She was predeceased by her sister Evangeline Stackhouse.

Vera will be remembered by her children as a loving and totally dedicated mother; she will also be remembered by all who knew her for her love of God and country, her beautiful singing voice, her passion for gardening and her zest and enthusiasm for life and all that it had to offer.

All are encouraged to join in a celebration of Vera's life to be held at the Franklin Congregational Church on Meetinghouse Hill Rd. on May 21, 2007 at 11:00am; Interment will immediately follow at Plain's Cemetery in Franklin. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2007 from 35pm at the Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St. Norwich.
