Gilbert E. “Bert“ Woolfrey

bertTownsend – Gilbert E. “Bert“ Woolfrey, 78, of Townsend, passed away on Friday morning, May 3, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Bert was born on January 17, 1946, in Belmont, MA, a son of the late Ernest G. and Virginia (MacCormack) Woolfrey.

He graduated from North Middlesex High School class of 64 and shortly thereafter joined the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1970.

Bert was the Proud owner of Woolfrey Printing in Nashua, NH. After retirement Bert worked with his son Andy. He enjoyed driving the dumpster truck and getting to chat and tell jokes with all their customers.

Bert enjoyed taking rides on his motorcycle, fishing with his boys and grandchildren, and spending time with his wife at the Casino. He devoted a lot of his time to Berts Gym where children with special needs and their families enjoyed playing games such as kickball, soccer, floor hockey etc.

He leaves his wife of 50 years Sue Ann (Moore) Woolfrey of Townsend; two sons Ben Woolfrey and his wife, Kathy of Groton, Andrew Woolfrey and his wife Sandy of Townsend; his brother, Richard Woolfrey of Somerset; two sisters, Susan, Teachout of Townsend and Cindy Donbrowo of North Carolina; predeceased by his sister Virginia Shattuck of Groton; eleven grandchildren, Mikayla, Matthew, Hunter, Caden, Parker, Bryan Sposato, Matthew Roy, (Stitch, Ruckus, Copper, and Oakley), Predeceased by Bling, and Tyson. As well as many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 8, from 4 to 7 PM in the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Townsend. A burial with military honors will take place at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made on his behalf to The American Cancer Society.
