David A. Buxbaum

Cumberland - David A. Buxbaum, 83, of East Shore Drive on Chebeague Island and of Hobe Sound, Fla., died Monday at a Yarmouth health care facility after a long illness.

He was born in Brookline, Mass., a son of Isadore and Lillian Maclean Buxbaum, and graduated from Brighton High School in 1931 and from Dartmouth College in 1935.

Mr. Buxbaum worked in his family's business, the Buxbaum Market in Newton, Mass., for several years.

In 1938, he married Marjorie L. Mapes.

In the mid-1940s, he began working in the sales department of the Guardian Life Insurance Co. Eventually, he also did financial planning. He retired in 1978.

Mr. Buxbaum was active in Wellesley, Mass., politics; was a member of the Wellesley Players Club; and a member, past president and course champion of the Chebeague Island Golf Club.

Mr. Buxbaum enjoyed playing and teaching piano for the Philip Saltman Studios in Wellesley, Mass.

His wife died in 1993.

Surviving are a daughter, Jacqueline Cross of Bristol, Conn.; two sons, Donald M. of Chebeague Island and Robert D. of Wellesley, Mass; 10 grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. June 14 at the Chebeague Island Methodist Church. Arrangements are by the Lindquist Funeral Home, Yarmouth.
