Four Torchbearers returned to Lake Placid to participate in the relighting of the torches at the Skating Oval in town and at the Rev. J. Bernard Fell Olympic Torch at the North Elba Show Grounds where the opening ceremonies took place 30 years ago. Lake Placid put on an "Olympic Oval Youth Day" with versions of sports including curling, ski jumping and bobsledding.

Dot Helling (Vermont), Suzy Mink (Virginia), Sandee Norris (Indiana) and Bev Johnson (Maine) did some short relays with a torch and Suzi ran the mile and half to the Grounds. We all participated in the ceremony which was extremely moving.

Buzz Schneider was the honored guest in Lake Placid. He was a gold medal winner as a key member of the 1980 Hockey Team and was at the Oval Saturday to sign autographs and meet the children and later speak at the relighting ceremony where over a thousand people attended.
