Virginia Tatakis-Calder

Virginia graduated from Upper Kennebec Valley High School and went to College at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She received most of her Physical Education background at Presque Isle and moved down state to check out more of the state. She was a House Parent at one of the houses for the Spurwink School, where she became head of staff and trained incoming staff for protocol and drug administration.

She then moved on to the Spurwink School and was an Educational Technician II and III in Freeport and then in Auburn. While at Spurwink, she taught science, Math and PE to the third-fifth grade class. At this time the desire to complete her Physical Education Degree flared and she continued her education with Saint Joseph's College.

After having her first child, Tracy, she started working with the Windham Middle School as an Educational Tech III working with children with ADHD and learning disabilities. She loved working with children and after having her second child, Tim, decided to work on the island. In 1999, she was hired by the Chebeague Recreation Center. At the CRC, Virginia built the Camp Chebeaue Program, teen programs, many after school programs and built up the use of the fitness room by training patrons on the equipment and starting a circuit training program. Tiffany, her third child, was born in 2001 and the recreation center was running extremely well, when in 2003, Virginia decided to build "Calder's Clam Shack". She believed the island needed a restaurant and she took on the challenge. The Clam Shack serves the community during the summer months.

In 2007, Chebeague Island became its own town and Virginia wanted to be part of the new school. She is now the bus driver and Health and Physical Education Teacher. Virginia is also continuing her education on-line and working on a Bachelors Degree in Adult Education through Saint Joseph's College.
